Vermian Death & Innumerable Forms

Dear Quinton,

I failed my parole board hearing last week because due to a victims of crime statement from the family ‘of one.’ The same person who what I consider a much worse crime. His letter complicated things, and the view of the board was that I needed to spend more time. Having said that, I can now share a cell, and Flo (last name removed) and I are getting along very well. It is nice to speak to someone else when I wake up. Flo gets up very early and prays, and I like to hear the prayers of another person.

I receive other privileges now, such as access to the weekly movie nights. My time has been more productive in 2025 than it was in 2024 and prior. I saw Riot in Cell Block 11 last night. A strange choice by the warden, but I think it was a test for us women. Would we get any funny ideas and try and reenact the scenes from that famous black and white classic? - of course the answer was no. But that’s not to say that I did not have a bit of empathy for dude that copped another 30 years, or some of the other characters. All they wanted was better treatment for each other.

You gave me early access to two albums released on August 22. The debut album from Grave Hex called Vermian Death and Innumerable Form’s third full length titled Pain Effulgence. Two different takes on Death Metal, but both very enjoyable.

Vermian Death is 27 minutes of what has been labelled worm flesh death metal. I don’t know what that is about, but it is unrelenting and it has that low bottom end vile tone with some great lead guitar work too, which I do really enjoy. What is also really great about this release is that it is catchy, and they haven’t betrayed the values of Death Metal to achieve that. I am very impressed with this, but damn lads, get rid of the worm infestation genre. Highly recommended.

Innumerable Forms has a bit more experience than the Hex’s, with two prior full lengths. This is a little different but equally enjoyable. Slightly doomier, it is a crushing release, and there is even a bit of a YOB feel during a track or two. The guitar lead and solo work is very cool, and it just chugs along in all the right ways. It is always interesting and engaging. The vocals are cool as hell, and again, it is memorable, and that is what you need if you are releasing Death Metal in 2025. Highly recommended again.

Thanks Quinton, and catch you around.

EMILY NESSIE

Hi Emily,

Thank you for your letter and for giving us a round up of the two releases. I am glad that you have a few extra perks in the slammer, and that you have not rioted in cell block 11 just yet. Behave in there, a mobile phone and some tax fraud just cost the Menendez brothers parole.

As for the music, agreed 100%. The two releases are different but just as killer in their own right, and deserve to be checked out on what is a great release day (22/8/25).

Grave Hex are from Finland, and Innumerable Forms are from Boston. Killer bands.
